Derek began his career in financial services in 1991 and successfully ran his own advisory business, specialising in pension and investment planning, before joining MWA in 2026.
Derek is passionate about helping clients make informed financial decisions to achieve their long-term goals. Building lasting relationships is at the heart of his approach, and one of the most rewarding aspects of his career has been advising multiple generations of the same family, with Derek saying: "Working with the children of clients I first met many years ago is both a privilege and a reminder of how quickly time passes!"
Outside of work, Derek is a keen rugby enthusiast and has been a season ticket holder at Bath Rugby for over 17 years. He previously coached rugby for children and young adults, and the sport remains an important part of his life. Derek has long been committed to giving back to his local community and has volunteered in primary schools for many years, helping pupils develop their confidence and understanding of mathematics. He also enjoys long walks, overseas travel, and cooking for family and friends.
